The action of Wave on vertical wall is one of the important problem. in wave theory. The invstigation of it is valuable not only because of the fiact that it will enable us to learn more deeply the important phenomena of the wave motion of the ocean. Since Sainflou established his theory of standing wave, many famous scientists have been waking researches on that problem. This problem should be studied not only theoretically and experimentally, but also should be studied in the light of experiences of the breakwater failures occured in the past. Therefore when-ever a failure of breakwater occurs in any part of the world, the investigatort attention will be at once taken upon it. On the 19th Feb. 1955, a great damage of the breakwater at port Genoa, Italy occured. At the suggestion of the Soviet specialist A. A. Kasparson(A. A. ), then working with us, a model test for investigating the cause of failure of breakwater at Port Genoa was conducted in our laboratory. After observing and analyzing many times the failure of breakwater in the process of this experiment, We find that it may be classified as concern to the phenomena of failure into two types, namely, types of long-wave failure and that of short-wave failure. As to the failure which occured at port Genoa, it belongs to the type of short-wave failure. In this experiment, the ware pressure on the face of the vertical wall has also been measured. Besides that, for the purpose of increasing the wall's ability to resist against long-wave failure, several tests of strengthening the stone bed near the harbour side are made.

According to the basic equations derived under the two assumptions by Harold Lauffer—(1) the energy head of every point of a vertical section remains constant,(2) the flow lines are concentric circular arcs,this paper qives a comprehensive deduction of curvature effect in the characteristics of free overflow of round-crested spillway.118 runs of experiments of three round-crested spillway models of different size have been conducted by the author.The experimental results check the derived equations basically.Some empirical equations have been prepared to facilitate the application of experimental data.The discharge coefficients of free overflow of 27 different profiles of 16 practical spillways obtained by model tests have also been collected to verify the curvature effect equatiohs given by this paper Their practical agreement is also acquired.

本文根据劳弗尔(H.Lauffer)氏在两项假定[(1)垂直测线上各点所含能量为常数,(2)流线呈同心圆弧]下所导得的基本公式,作了详细的补充引伸,得出圆顶壩自由溢流时各项水力特性中的曲率影响计算公式。作者曾进行了大、中、小三个圆顶壩模型的试验共118组,试验成果基本上和导得的计算公式相合致。文中并根据试验资料制定了一些经验公式,应用时可更简便。此外,也曾搜集了16个实用溢流壩包括27种断面曲线形式的流量系数模型试验资料,来验证流量系数所受的曲率影响,基本上也相符合。

In order to approach the world level of shipbuilding,science within twelve years,it is necessary to survey the recent development in shipbuilding research of some leading maritime countries.This paper starts with stating the achievments of shipbuilding research work in this himdred years and steps taken by some leading countries for further development after the World War Ⅱ.Then it goes on to discuss the main achievments in the field of ship hydrodynamics and ship strength in recent years,and these are subdivided into the following headings: Ship hydrodynamics:(1)Systematic model testing.(2)Model-ship co-relalion, (3)Theory of wave making resistance,(4) Systematic testing of model propellers, (5)Propeller theory,(6)Cavitation,erosion,Singing of propellers,(7)Ship motion and seakeeping quality. Strength of ships: (1) Strength testing of actual ships and stress measure- ments on sea way,(2)Strength testing in model tank,(3)Problem of long superstructure,(4) Elastic and plastic strength of ship plating,(5) Ship vibration, (6) Materials for ship construction. This paper also gives an account of the preliminary achievments of the Chinese shipbuilding research work in respective fields and expresses the opinion that a great deal of amount of work is left to be done for the Chinese naval architects.Finally,the paper suggests that China must redouble her effort to construct her main shipbuilding research base equiped with instruments and apparatus of highest quality and to train the research experts as quick as possible.

为了在十二年内争取赶上世界的造船科学水平,就有必要对世界各国造船科学研究的发展,进行一番探讨。本文首先说明造船科学在百年来所起的作用,和二次世界大战后各国对造船科学研究的组织和发展。进一步探讨了二次大战后在船舶流体力学及船体强度学两方面的主要成就。并分以下几部份叙述: 船舶流体力学方面:(1)关于船型的系列试验;(2)关于船模与实船的换算关系;(3)兴波阻力理论;(4)推进器系列试验;(5)推进器理论;(6)推进器空泡、剥蚀、唱音等问题;(7)船舶运动和适航性。船体强度学方面:(1)实船强度试验和航行中应力测量;(2)船模试验池中的强度试验;(3)长上层建筑问题;(4)船体钢板的弹性塑性问题;(5)船体振动问题;(6)造船用材料问题。文中也涉及一些我国造船科学研究的初步收获,并说明我国在整个造船科学领域中还留着很大空白面。为了进一步发展我国的造船科学研究;建设主要的研究基地,充实仪表设备和培养研究人员是刻不容缓的事。
