In order to improve the image contrast and to single out the desirable signals in a coherent image enhancement system, a polarizing filter was used. Using a method of the spatial frequency filtering by combining the directional filtering with the very low frequency filtering, the desirable optical signals cau be taken out of a considerably complex image. In order to improve the image contrast and to single out the desirable signals in a coherent image enhancement system, a polarizing filter was used. When the relative polarization between the object transparency illumination and the polarizing filter was altered, the low frequency attenuation could be continuously controlled over a wide range of light intensity. Therefore the maximization of the image contrast was easily achieved. We have done the experiment by taking earthquake wave signals out of the background with both high and low frequency. The result obtained indicates that our experiment on the comprehensive spatial frequency filtering is successful.
