The statistical evaluation of lymphocyte counts of 687 blood samples from clinically normal cattle in three lymphosarcoma-free herds and one single-case herd was used to determine limits for normal lymphocyte values.These data were used to establish the Nanjing Agricultural College Key (NAC Key) for demonstrating lymphocytosis in cattle. In order to test its efficiency, this key,together with Bendixen′s Key, was applied to 692 animals in three multiple-case herds with various incidence of lymphosarcoma, and verified with 27 cases of lymphosarcoma and 6 cases of nonlymphosarcoma, all of which had been confirmed histopathologically. Besides,an immunodiffusion test for detecting antibodies to bovine leukemia virus was apllied to 667 animals in the same multiple-case herds,and the results were evaluated and compared with those of hematological examination.From these studies, we found the NAC Key more suitable for Nanjing and Zhenjiang Prefecture, Jiangsu Province, than Bendixen Key.

Thus the glycine residue at the position 5G on β chain(β56[DT]) was replaced by aspartic acid,and it was hence identified as hemoglobin J Bangkok(α2,β256[DT]Gly→ASP).

An agar gel immunodiffusion(ID)test for detecting antibodies to bovineleukemic virus(BLV)and a hematological examination were carried out on 1134head of cattle in 6 herds.Measured by the Nanjing Agricultural College Key(NAC Key),the hematologieally positive percentages for persistent lymphocytosisin the BLV-free and the low infected herds were 0.56% and 0% respectively.Those of the ID reactors in the heavily infected herds were not more than30%,and in most cases they were far less.The percentage of hematologicallypositive animals in the ID reactors(10.53%)was higher than that in the IDtest negative animals(2.73%).The frequency of BLV infection among thehematologically positive cattle(70.77%)was higher than that of the hema-tologically suspected ones(49.44%),and the latter was higher than that of thehematologically negative animals(35.41%).These data suggest that the IDtest correlated closely with the hematological examination.Among the resultsevaluated by the NAC key,the false positive rate(2.73%)was considerablylower and the frequency of reactors in the ID test among the cattle withpersistent lymphocytosis(70.77%)was apparently higher than those evaluatedby Bendixen's Key(10.62% and 58.89% respectively).These data indicatethat the NAC Key which was established natively from the normal lymphocytevalue is more applicable to the Nanjing and Zhenjiang Prefecture,JiangsuProvince.

对六个牛群的1134头黑白花乳牛进行了牛白血病琼脂扩散及临床血液学检查。在无 BLV 感染及低感染牛群中,按南农检索表判定的血液检验阳性率分别为0.56%和0%;在高感染牛群中,琼扩试验阳性牛的血液检验阳性率均不超过30%,而且多数牛群远低于30%。琼扩试验阳性牛的血液检验阳性率(10.53%)高于琼扩试验阴性牛(2.73%),血液检验阳性牛的琼扩试验阳性率(70.77%)高于血液检验可疑牛(49.44%),而后者又高于血液检验阴性牛(35.41%),表明血液检验与琼扩试验结果存在明显的正相关。南农检索表判定的血液检验假阳性率(2.73%)低于 Bendixen检索表(10.62%),而其判定为阳性的牛只中琼扩试验结果为阳性的符合率(70.77%)又高于 Bendixen 检索表(58.89%),说明南农检索表更适合于我国南京和镇江地区作为黑白花乳牛 PL 的血液检查判定标准。
