This paper presents an experimental research of a new type shear wall mechanism. The precast shear wall panels are installed by means of vertical prestressing so that slidable horizontal friction joints are to be formed between the top of the panel and the bottom of the beam.Tests of four single-storeyed R/C models of such structure under cyclic reversed lateral loading have been conducted to demonstrate the above mentioned principles. The results observed indicate that the slide of the friction joints is normal, and that the critical damping and the energy dissipated are quite large.a calculation method reflecting the sliding mechanism of the friction joints is developed basing on the measured results of tested models and gives satisfactory results that agree well with those observed during the tests.

A brief review is given of a deterministic design philosophy with respect to earthquake resisting ductile structures for reinforced concrete buildings. This was recently developed mainly in New Zealand. In this approach a preferred hierarchy in the development of energy dissipating mechanisms is postulated. Some applications of "capacity design procedures" relevant to beams, columns and shear walls, are outlined. The paramount importance of quantifiable good detailing is emphasized and the relevance of this with respect to shear effects in plastic hinges, the confinement of compressed concrete, and bond between reinforcement and concrete are examined. These aspects of the specific seismic environment are also utilized to show fundamental differences in structural behaviour when effects of gravity loads or seismic displacements are compared.

Based on the concept of the energy method and a series of laboratory testing res 1ts, the effects of different types of the exerted cyclic loading on the development of pore water pressure in sands are studied in this paper. Study results show that the relationship is unified between the average values of the cyclic pore pressure development and the accumulated energy dissipated in the soil, but the instantaneous values of pore pressure development will also be related to the intensities of both the exerted...

Study results show that the relationship is unified between the average values of the cyclic pore pressure development and the accumulated energy dissipated in the soil, but the instantaneous values of pore pressure development will also be related to the intensities of both the exerted shearing and spherical stresses in the unique period of vibration. Therefore, an expression for cyclic pore pressure development under different types of loadings may be finally obtained, in which the development of pore pressure will be predicted by two factors of the accumulated energy and the energy dissipated in the unique vibrating time.

为了考虑实际工程问题中不同振动荷载的形式对土中振动孔隙水压力的影响.从能鼠分析的原理出发并结合大量试验成果分析,研究和探讨了任意不同形式荷载下土中振动孔压的发展形式.由此所提出的土的振动孔压耦合模型.更为合理地阐明不同形式荷载下土中振动孔压增长的原因,而且也比较方使于实际应用.
