Objective To investigate the burnout status of staff nurses and its relative factors, and to explore effective preventive intervention. Methods 779 staff nurses were surveyed with a questionnaire applying Burnout Syndrome Scale and Job Stressors Scales, and a multivariate regressor analysis was carried out. Results Staff nurses scored highly in both scales, and there was significant positive correlation between the two variables (P<0.001). Conclusion Burnout of staff nurses has a significant positive correlation to job stressors. Administrators should emphasize particularly on nursing individuals, job natures and administrations when taking preventive methods.

Approaching the topic by providing reasons for EFL teacher professional development, this paper explores the burnout syndrome common to EFL teachers in China and points out that the cure lies in professional development. Based on the most recent works by recognized scholars in the field of second language teacher education, the paper puts forward four constituents of professional development: 1)reconceptualizing "teaching"; 2)shifting teacher beliefs; 3)understanding the relation between teaching and research; 4)two practical approaches for in-service EFL teachers to pursuing professional development. The author concludes that it is not only necessary, but also practicable for in-service EFL teachers to pursue professional development.

本文从在职EFL教师职业发展的必要性入手,探讨了中国EFL教师常见的惯性情绪紧张综合症的原因,指出根治方法在于寻求职业发展。作者借鉴二语教师教育领域公认学者的最新著作,提出了职业发展的4个要素:1)重新界定“教学;”2)转变教师信念;3)摆正教学科研关系;4)在职EFL教师寻求职业发展的两种可行方法。由此得出结论:EFL教师在不脱离教学的条件下寻求职业发展不仅是必要的,而且是可行的。
