It may be due to the absence of the cell wall in virus. Both the vegetative form and the spore of B. subtilis were very susceptible to this drug; therefore, using the bacteriocidal effect to the spore as a standard for inactivation of hepatitis B virus seems to be unsuitable.

Substances with various moleoular weights and charges were chosen: insulin, human serum albumin, human fetal alpha-fetoprotein and the surface antigen of hepatitis B virus. Trial-assays of the above antigens were carried out repeatedly by the improved method. The whole procedure can be completed within 3~5 hrs for Ins, HSA and AFP and 6~7 hrs for HBsAg respectively....
