As the thermal stability and thermal expansion coefficientare of great importance to X-ray spectrometer analyzer crystals, we havestudied these properties of the crystals PET, TAM and RAP by meansof differential thermal analysis, thermogravimetry and dilatometry. Thedecomposition temperatures obtained for PET, TAM aud RAP are 187℃,194℃ and 214℃; while the phase change temperatures are 187℃, 138℃ and220℃ respectively. The thermal expansion coefficients for PET (c-axis), TAM(b-axis) and RAP(α-axis) are 12.1×10~(-5), 5.18×10~(-5) and 3.59×10~(-5)(℃-1) res-pectively. The effects of thermal expansion on the diffraction angle and on thedevice processing have also been discussed. Generally speaking, crystals RAPand TAM, as compared with KAP and PET which are similar in interplanerspacing to them, are more acceptable not only in optical quality, but also inphysical and chemical properties, so these crystals maybe more useful in practice.
