In sheet metal working,we must develop the surface for the product of sheet metal. The method of graph or calculation is often used. Having taken the advantages of them, this paper adopts the graph-calculation method. According to the different properties of the surface, three general groups of developments by the graph are as follows: radial-line development, parallel-line development and triangulation. This paper researches interrelation among the three groups of developments. A complete program to develop the product of sheet metal by a computer is stated depending on the common laws. This program is applied to the surface developments of various shapes. It has the features of current characteristic,strong function and easy operation etc., and can be used in Computer Aided Design (C.A.D) for the product of sheet metal.
