The rice varieties with different resistant genes used for the test were as follows: Gene Variety BPH 1 IR 26, IR 46, 7105 bph 2 ASD 7 2 unidentified genes Sinna Sivappu Minor genes Kencana, Triveni, Utri Rajapan, Fubaoai 21, Baosyan 2,Zhung Shanxung None TN 1 The results are as follows: 1. Field test The varieties, namely Kencana, Triveni, Utri Rajapan, Fubaoai 21 and Baosyan 2 were identified as resistant(R)or moderately resistant (MR) to BPH with 1 to 5.7 damage rating at 70 days after transplanting. 2. Modified seedling bulk test All the MR varieties, such as Utri Rajapan, Kencana, Triveni, Fubaoai 21, Baosyan 2, were rated as susceptible when 7~10 day-old seedlings at 2-2.5 leaf stage were infested with 5 second/third instar nymphs of BPH per seedling. But in using 15~45 day-old seedlings infested with the same density of insects, these varieties were identified as R or MR to BPH with 1 to 5.7 damage rating at 8 days after infestation. 3. Nonpreference There were significant differences in the number of BPH nymphs settling on the different rice varieties tested at 48th hour after infestation. It was a tendency that some of MR varieties had fewer BPH than on TN 1. 4. Nymphal survival Survival of nymphs on the MR varieties of Baosyan 2, Kencana, Triveni, Utri Rajapan and Fubaoai 21 was significantly lower than on the susceptible TN 1, but the insects on the MR variety of Zhung Shanxung were shown to have the same rate of survival as TN 1. While the lowest survival rates of insect were found on the varieties of ASD 7, IR 26, IR 46, Sinna Sivappu and 7105. 5. Population buildup The MR variety of Zhung Shanxung had large BPH population at the same level as susceptible TN 1, but the others of MR varieties were found to have lower population of insects than TN 1. 6. Amount of honeydew The amount of honeydew excreted by the insects fed on the MR varieties was larger than on the R varieties, but lower than on TN 1. According to the results mentioned above it is suggested that the modified seedling bulk test (15~20 day-old seedling at the 3.5 to 4.5 leaf stage,infestation with 5 second/third instar nymphs of BPH per seedling) can be used efficiently to differentiate not only the R varieties, but also the MR varieties from the susceptible ones. Although the BPH survival rate and population buildup are regarded as important parameters for identifying the resistant sources, for the MR varieties they are utilized only to discriminate those varieties, of which the resistant nature is known as antibiosis-tolerance complex.

田间试验表明,若干水稻品种对褐稻虱具有中抗或抗的特性。但采用国际上的标准苗期集团筛选法,不能将这些品种从感虫品种中区分出来。只有采用改良的筛选法,即当秧苗具有3.5~4.5片叶时,每苗平均接入2~3龄若虫5头,可以达到上述的目的。生存率和群体建立的测定只能鉴别兼有抗生性和耐害性的中抗品种;而蜜露量的测定则可作为抗性的可靠指标之一。
