Purpose: To explore the MR imaging features of central pontine myelinolysis and to assess their enhancement characteristics on Gd - DTPA enhanced MR imaging . Methods: Two patients with central pontine myelinolysis underwent 3 - dimensional scan MR imaging before and after intravenous administration of Gd - DTPA . Objective To investigate the enhancement characteristics of the pancreas on Mn DPDP enhanced MRI and to compare Mn DPDP enhancement with Gd DTPA dynamic enhancement, to guide Mn DPDP enhanced pancreatic MRI in clinical practice.Materials and Methods During sep. 1999~March 2000, Gd DTPA and Mn DPDP enhanced MRI were carried out in 46 patients with focal hepatic lesions, of which 29 cases had no evidence of pancreatic disease and were enrolled in this study. Conventional plain and dynamic Gd DTPA enhanced scanning were done initially. On the next day, SE T 1WI and SPGR T 1WI were performed at every 5 min. interval in the first 40 minutes and at 24 hours after the administration of Mn DPDP, with a dose of 0.5ml/kg and at a rate of 2~3ml/min, was finished.Results The normal pancreas showed enhancement at 5 min. after the administration of Mn DPDP with a significant increase on SNR (P<0.05), and was kept in a platform phase for 5 to 40 min. At 35 min. the contrast enhancement index (CEI) of pancreas reached its peak of 74%±36 and 80%±29 on SE T 1WI and SPGR T 1WI, respectively, but no significant difference between the two sequences was seen. After 24 hours, the SNR of pancreas was still higher than that on plain images. The pancreatic CEI on SPGR T 1WI, obtained at 35 min after the administration of Mn DPDP, was lower than that obtained on Gd DTPA enhanced images in arterial phase (80%±29 vs 108%±26, P<0.05). But it was similar to that obtained in portal phase (85%±25, P<0.05) and higher than that obtained in delayed phase (69%±13, P<0.05).Conclusion Mn DPDP enhanced MRI can be used for studying the pancreas as its efficacy of enhancement is compatible to that of Gd DTPA in portal phase, it can also provide plentiful imaging time windows and adopt other SE T 1WI sequences besides SPGR T 1WI.

Objective To study the effect of the injection rate of contrast medium on hepatic dynamic enhancement with helical CT during arterial portography,to determine the optimal injection rate of contrast medium.Methods Thirty-two patients were divided into A,B,C and D groups.A volume of 80 ml of megluming diatrizoate(225 mg/ml) was injected with a power injector into the SMA in all patients.The injection rates were,A:3.0 ml/s;B:2.5 ml/s;C:2.0 ml/s;D:1.5 ml/s.25 repeated scans were obtained with an interscan delay of 3 seconds at a single level after contrast material injection.To measure the attenuation of the liver parenchyma and tumors on every scan,and time-attenuation curves were created.Dynamic enhancement characteristics of the live parenchyma and tumors were evaluated.Results ①The time to peak of attenuation of hepatic parenchyma in groups A,B,C and D were (34.6±5.4) s;(37.2±4.2) s;(39.1±3.8) s;(49.7±5.1) s,respectively.Among groups A,B and C,there were not significant difference(Ρ>0.05),but between A,B,C and D,the difference were significant(Ρ<0.01).②The peak of enhancement of hepatic parenchyma in group A,B,C and D were (187.5±13.1) HU;(183.8±11.2) HU;(178.4±7.8) HU;(165.3±8.9) HU,respectively.Among groups A,B and C,there were not significant difference(Ρ>0.05),but between A,B,C and D,the difference were significant(Ρ<0.01).③There were not various in the attenuation of the tumors.Conclusion When a volume of 80 ml of megluming diatrizoate(225 mg/ml) was injected,①the injection rates(2.0~3.0 ml/s) is supperior to the rate(1.5 ml/s).②within the range of the rates (2.0~3.0 ml/s),the enhancement characteristics of the liver is not effected by the injection rate.So the rate(2.0 ml/s)is optimal.
