The principal content of this paper is two examples both containing nonlinear loads (rectifiers).Conclusions and recommendations are made concerning the application of harmonic power flow studies. The salient recommendation is that in the presence of nonlinear loads (especially during light loading) or in systems containing HVDC lines. harmonic signals should not be ignored.

    The planned Three-Gorge Hydro Project (TGHP) is located in The Central Power Network of China (CPNC). CPNC and The East Power Network oE China are planned to achieve the interconnection through two bi-poie DC links and three circuits of 500kV AC power ties for transfering about 6000-7000MW of electric power from the west to-the east. In order to enhance the transmission capability of the ties, the DC modulation principle, and its results, and its function in the TGHP AC-DC parallel transmission system are described...

    The planned Three-Gorge Hydro Project (TGHP) is located in The Central Power Network of China (CPNC). CPNC and The East Power Network oE China are planned to achieve the interconnection through two bi-poie DC links and three circuits of 500kV AC power ties for transfering about 6000-7000MW of electric power from the west to-the east. In order to enhance the transmission capability of the ties, the DC modulation principle, and its results, and its function in the TGHP AC-DC parallel transmission system are described in this paper. The minimal time control theory is used for DC modulation and the sub-optimum control modes are suggested, i.e. phase angle shif (A) and frequency shif (f) modulating modes. During fault condition either in EHVAC or HVDC, 0 or f is used as a control signal to change the transfer power of HVDC immediately, thus the whole interconnected AC-DC system will reach a stable state within a minimal time period. As the digital study indicated that the power unbalance between the sending and receiving ends caused by either the severe fault on the EHV tie-line or the permanent fault on two poles of HVDC line can be decreased rapidly, and the power oscillation can also be damped effectively. Using above stated modulation method, the transfer capability of TGHP can be increased by 10%. Instead of DC modulation, the strategy of generator triping 4x500MW at TGHP will be necessary to maintain similar stability level.

    本文利用最短时间控制原理研究三峡直流调制,并按次最优控制提出了两种直流调制方法。该方法对交流故障和直流故障均适用,可以有效地抑制系统振荡,明显改善系统的暂态稳定性能,提高交直流并联输电的能力。本文还对直流调制与切机措施作了比较。同时对直流调制信号的选取及调制量的整定也作了探讨。
