In this paper, the developments and advances of error-correcting codes before and after year 1970 are described, putting emphasis on the latter. This paper consists of three parts: encode and decode of the block codes and the convolutional codes.

In this paper a class of single byte error correcting double byte error detecting codes (Sb/EC Db/ED codes) generated by means of the recursive process is presented. If the byte length is b, the length of checking part of the code is m bytes, the length of information part of the code is k bytes, then the maximal code length will be n=m+k=2m-2...

In this paper a class of single byte error correcting double byte error detecting codes (Sb/EC Db/ED codes) generated by means of the recursive process is presented. If the byte length is b, the length of checking part of the code is m bytes, the length of information part of the code is k bytes, then the maximal code length will be n=m+k=2m-2 (2b-1+1) bytes. In case of b= 1, these codes are the same with the ordinary binary Hamming SBC DED codes. Furthermore, another class of Sb/EC Db/BD rotation codes is produced with a computer. The length of such a code is longer than that of the previous one as the length of the checking part is increased.

The BCH code is a widely used error——correcting code. Although it can correct a number of errors if necessary, its efficency is not very high. The generalized BCH code improves the function of the BCH code. In this paper, the concept of the generalized BCH code is introduced, and its capacity of error——correcting is discussed.

BCH码是一类有广泛应用的纠错码,它可以根据需要纠正多个差错,但效率不是很高。广义BCH码改进了BCH码的性能。本文引进了广义BCH码的概念,并且探讨了它的纠错能力。
