Conductivity measurements of the hydrochloride of aniline, methyl aniline and ethyl aniline in water aud in dioxane-water mixtures have been made at 25℃, by using a Jones Bridge. Measurements of conductances at 25℃ of these salts have been made in concentrations ranging from 0.1 normal to 0.001 normal, using water and numerous dioxane-water mixtures as solvents. The conductivities of these salts in water and some dioxane-water mixtures with excess free bases have also been measured. The hydrolysis constants of these salts and the ionizatioa constants of these amines have been calculated from the conductivity measurements. The results are: K_h K_b Aniline hydrochloride 2.7 × 10~(-5) 4. 5 × 10~(-10) Methyl aniline hydrochloride 2.6 × 10~(-5) 4. 6 × 10~(-10) Ethyl aniline hydrochloride 1.1 × 10~(-5) 10. 6 × 10~(-10) A discussion of the effect of dielectric constant upon conductivities has been included. Calculations of the equivalent conductivities of these salts have been made and discussed. The equivalent conducfivities at infinite dilution at 25℃ are: Aniline hydrochloride 166 mho Methyl aniline hydrochloride 161 mho Ethyl aniline hydrochloride 152.5 mho

The velocities of reaction of ethyl acetate with sodium hydroxide in dioxane- water mixture have been determined in seven different temperatures(5°,10°, 15°,20°,25°,30°and 35°).For each temperature,the compositions of solvent mixture are 0,5,10,15,20,25 and 30% of dioxane.We thus obtain 49 velo- city constants as summarized in the following table. The velocities of reaction of ethyl acetate with sodium hydroxide in dioxane- water mixture have been determined in seven different temperatures(5°,10°, 15°,20°,25°,30°and 35°).For each temperature,the compositions of solvent mixture are 0,5,10,15,20,25 and 30% of dioxane.We thus obtain 49 velo- city constants as summarized in the following table. The“isocomposition”energy of activation decreases slightly with increase of percentage of dioxane in the solvent mixture. The“isodielectric”energy of activation shows practically no change,when the dielectric constant changes from 80 to 50.Its value is 11300 calories. The experimental data are compared with the three modern theories of ion- molecule reaction,namely,by(1)Moelwyn-Hughes,(2)Laidler and Eyring and (3)Amis and Jaffe.From the viewpoint of influence of dielectric constant on the rate of the present reaction,the first two theories disagree qualitatively with our experimental data,while the last one,though qualitatively successful,fails quantitatively.(The “enhanced moment” and index of refraction as calculated from the last theory with the use of our data are unreasonably large.)

The apparent acid dissociation constants of N-phenylglycine and of N-α-naphthylglycinehave been determined by pH method at 25℃ in 30% ethanol solution in the presence of 0.10Msodium perchlorate.That of glycine was also determined under the same conditions for thepurpose of comparison.These amino acids were found to have comparable acid strengths,but their basicity is quite different.N-phenylglycine as a base is much weaker thanglycine as expected,while N-α-naphthylglycine shows very strong base strength which...

在25℃时及0.10M NaClO_4存在下,N-苯氨基乙酸((?)G)和 N-α-萘氨基乙酸(αNG)在30%(体积)乙醇中的表观离解常数用 pH 法测定为(?)G:pK_(COOH)=2.69,pK_(R_2NH_2)~+=4.72;αNG:pK_(COOH)=2.64,pK_(R_2NH_2)~+=10.83。为便于比较,氨基乙酸(G)的离解常数亦在相同情况下测定为 pK_(COOH)=2.71,pK_(R_2NH_2)~+=9.30。(?)G 和αNG 的硷性强度相差如此巨大,主要是由于后者有位阻效应之故。(?)G 的硷性比 G 的弱得多,因共轭效应起决定性的作用。改变溶剂的介电常数的结果是使氨基酸的酸硷性均减弱。
