The result suggests that 5th seismic active period of NE China will be over in about 2008,and that the maximal earthquake intensity is about magnitude 6 in this active period.
Through analyzing the relation of strong earthquakes in the periphery and the strong earthquake activity in China mainland, we found that the active period of the periphery and the later three years are the main active time.
The process of gestation,occurance and adjustment of the South Taiwan Strait earthquake of M 7.3 in 1994 and Beibu Gulf double-earthquakes of M 6.1,M 6.2 in 1994,1995 are reviewed. It comes to the conclusion that the two strong earthquakes echo quickly each other,bear the grouped and quasi synchronous activity characteristics and dominate the collectivity pattern of the moderately strong earthquake activity of the fourth active curtain of the southeast coastal seismic belt.
The strain rates in the different period during 1995-2005 in Beijing area indicate that the maximal shear strain rates, in the periods during 1995-1996 and 1996-1999, were larger than those in other periods and basically consistent with the period during 1996-1999 in which the seismic activity in Yinshan-Yanshan southern margin and Zhangjiakou-Bohai tectonic zones was high.
Datong-Yanggao earthquakes with M =6.1 and 5.8 as well as Houma earthquake with M= 4.9 and Xinzhou earthquake with M=5.1 during the former period are all the results of the increase of regional stress field in North China and they are also a kind of precursors that the moderate and strong events will be activated in Shanxi seismic zone.

In this paper, the new result has been used to further research the characteristics of the seismic activity in Northeastchina area. The result is that space-time distribution and evolution of the earthquakes in Northeastchina is of clear regularity. Particularly, the characteristics of the seismic band, active episode, quiet episode and migration have important significance for the tendency prediction.
Based on the longer time and larger region,the authors studied the seismicity background of Datong-Yanggao earthquake with M=6.1 in 1989. The conclusion is that the earthquake was not a isolated one, it is the continuation and inevitable outcome of the seismicity with M>6 in Datong basin.
