There is reason to believe that the concavity ("d") of the weld pool may be taken as an important indication of such local conditions. Thus, for a given base metal, the tendency of microcracks formation may increase mainly with the increase of "d", whereas the effect of energy imput during welding appears to be less important in this respect.
