An aircraft gun-sight micromputer system has been developed in order to replace the discrete element semiconductor logic one with a view to enhancing the defensive capability of Chinese air- craft. Such a microcomputer system can perform in a much better way all the functions of the original semiconductor digital computer. It brings the follow- ing benefits: reducing the volume to about one tenth, decreasing the weight from 33 kg to several kg (the main body from 23.3 kg to about 10 percent), increasing the reliability greatly, and making the operation and maintance quite easy. The gun-sight microcomputer system consists of a microcomputer single board Z80 Only (adequate for the devices required), of the A/D, D/A board, and of some electronic circuit. Since the Z80 microprcessor is an eight-bit one without instructions for performing multiplication and division, several fast 16 bit subroutines have to be designed to raise the operating speed. The author's experiments indicate that the microcomputers memory capacity and accuracy of the microcomputer board can amply meet the need of the real system, but its operating speed is barely adequate and may be improved by using the distributed microcomputer system consisting of two microcomputers.
