An ion exchange membrane has to be used to prevent the interaction between two redox couple, which results in many problems. It is difficult to find a membrane that has high stability and ion conductivity. On the other hand, the use of ion exchange membrane leads to high cost, complexity and low energy conversion efficiency for the battery. In this paper, an ion exchange membrane free liquid flow battery was introduced. This kind of battery was based on the deposition reaction of dissolvable lead(II) methanesulfonic solution, forming lead on the negative and lead dioxide on the positive. It does not need any ion exchange membrane, so as to solve the problems in the conventional liquid flow battery.

液流储能电池通常以可溶的离子作电池正负极的氧化还原电对,为防止可溶离子的相互干扰,必须使用离子交换膜。这就带来诸多问题:理想的高化学稳定性和高离子传导性的离子交换膜难于得到,离子膜的使用使成本增加、系统复杂、能量转化效率低等等。介绍了一种无离子交换膜液流电池———全沉积型铅酸液流电池。这种电池以甲基磺酸铅(II)作电解质,充电时分别在正负极沉积金属铅和二氧化铅,放电时沉积物转化回原来的基质,无需使用离子交换膜,能够解决存在于传统液流电池中的问题。
