Thirdly, the RBFN-based channel estimator for OFDM is introduced to MIMO-OFDM systems combined with the orthogonal pilot design method presented forMIMO-OFDM. At the same time, the specific designs for STBC-OFDM system with Alamouti Space-Time Block Codes are put forward.

The accurate channel estimation in MIMO-OFDM system is a key factor to improve the system's performance. In the paper, an optimal pilot design method is proposed on the basis of the maximum likelihood estimation by using eigen-values of the input sequence matrix. Meanwhile, a closed expression of the SNR loss in the receiver is also derived. The presented method can be used to direct the pilot design for various channel conditions.
