According to the actual problems existing in the process of electric submersible pump operation, a mathematical model of the technological design of electric submersible pump lifting system in directional well was set up by use of the node analysis method (taking the electric submersible pump as a function node) and in combination with the characteristic curve of the electric submersible pump. In the model,we have comprehensively considered the supple-drainage coordination relation between the formation and the electric submersible pump lifting system, the clearance between the internal diameter of directional well casing and the external diameter of electric submersible pump, and the influence of the length and bending of electric submersible pump on its operation,thus avoiding pump damage caused by the dog-leg severity at pump running-in depth. The temperature increase aroused by wellbore radial thermal conduction and electric submersible pump calorification was also considered in the model. The well head temperature was taken as an unknown quantity in predicting the distribution of pressures and temperatures in the pump lifting system at different fluid producing rates, thus avoiding the calculation error's being produced because of inaccurate wellhead temperature-measuring value. By taking the well CB -A19 in Bo-hai oil field as an example, the technological design result of electric submersible pump lifting system is given out in the paper.
