Based on monthly mean SST and OLR data during 1982~1996 and by applying Singular Value Decomposition (SVD)technique and correlation analysis, a new index for ENSO monitoring system is studied. The results show that tropical Pacific SST and OLR fields are significantly correlated. The first modes of these two fields derived from SVD clearly indicate ENSO signals. According to the analyses of the structure of OLR anomaly fields in the mature phases of both El Nio and La Nia, and the spatial correlation between NINO 3 index and the tropical Pacific OLR field, this paper reveals that the pattern of the opposite centers like dipole over the tropical Pacific in OLR field is quite similar to the structure over the equatorial Pacific for the first modes of both OLR and SST. A Convective activities Oscillation Index (COI) is thus derived for the opposite variation structure of OLR between the eastern central Pacific and the western Pacific. Further analyses have confirmed that COI is a sensitive index to reflect ENSO signal. The correlation between COI and NINO 3 index is higher than the other indices (including SOI) used in operational ENSO monitoring system worldwide.

Using Singular Value Decomposition(SVD) technique,the relationship between 100hPa height in the Northern Hemisphere and summer rainfall in Sichuan Privince and Chongqing city is studied.The result shows that the height and rainfall fields have close correlation.The first mode derived from SVD reflects the key coupled characteristics of the two fields.The height variation of South Asia High region in previous October to December and January to April,by influencing South Asia High in Summer,results in the summer drought flood anomalies in Sichuan Province and Chongqing city.The asynchronous relationship between height and rainfall fields with obvious interpretation and significant correlation is a useful strong signal for the prediction of summer drought flood anomalies in Sichuan Province and Chongqing City.

利用卫星遥感数据 ,以局域植被物候现象分析为基础 ,开展大尺度植被分布的宏观特征研究 ,试图从一个新的角度 ,考察中国东部季风区植被物候的地域表现。研究区域位于夏季风自南向北推进的路径上 ,限定在 ( 2 3~ 47°N ,1 1 5~ 1 2 0°E)的条状区域内 ,并以 1个纬度的间隔划分出 2 4个空间段。在研究中 ,利用NOAA/NASAPathfinderAVHRR陆地数据集中的规一化植被指数 (ND VI)数据集 ,对 2 4个空间段上的植被物候季节特征进行了经验正交函数 (EOF)分析。使用EOF第一主分量的方差贡献作为一种定量指标 ,以一种定量化的方式 ,确定了由不同植被物候特征表现的植被过渡带和气候过渡带的位置 ,其结果与过去植被生态研究和气候研究中通过植被和气候区域划分提出的过渡带位置相对应 ,验证了在中国东部季风区上现有植被区划和气候区划的合理性。这项研究还表明 ,植被生态的宏观特征可以使用定量化的方法进行分析 ,卫星遥感为此提供了有力的支持。
