Results from this study point out: owing to the comparatively high reheating temperature of billet, there comes a kind of sticking friction between plug and metal during piercing which causes the transient temperature in the surface layer metal on the inner wall of tube blank rising very highly, thus, leading to the weakening of grain boundary and "loss of plasticity". Accordingly under the compound action of different stresses in the course of deformation, the metal in inner wall is easily deteriorated, with the result that cracks along grain boundary are induced dy sticking friction heat.

The fluvial processes of the Lower Yellow River and its estuary after 1855 could be distinguished into two stages. In the first stoge, fluvial process of the lower reach is characterized by downward aggradation and the estuary is relatively stable and deep. In the second stage, the rising of the base level by the growth of delta and the extension of the river course plays an important role. Wandering of river course and avulsion take place frequently. Considering on a macroscopic scale, the progressive extension of the river mouth may account for the non-equilibrium of the Lower Yellow River in a long term, rather than any tendentious variations of the amount of sediment load or any prominent change of the flow boundaries. By analyzing the data of deposition on the flood plain, the rise of water stage along the river course and the extension of the river coures, it has been proved that there exists a close correlation between the depositional thickness of the lower reach and the length of extension of the river course into the sea. Besides, the depositional pattern of the Lower Yellow River shows similar characteristics as that of Lower Weihe and Luohe River and also the profile behind low head hydraulic structures. Further proof shows that the deposition in the Lower Yellow River should be referred to as retrogressive character causing fundamentally by the extension of river course, which is equivalent to the rise of base level of the estuary. However, it does not mean that the enormous amount of sediment load is not a basic cause for the extensive deposition in the Lower Yellow River. The author intends only to point out that the aggradation in the Lower Yellow River is merely indirectly influenced by the large amount of sediment load most of which have been transported to the delta region accounting for the extension of the river course. According to the above analysis understanding should be proceeded as proposed in the paper. On the one hand, the oncoming sediment load should be lessened as much as possible, on the other hand, various measures should be taken to slow down the rate of extension of the river course. Considering that these could not be effectively realized in a short time, in other words, it would be impractical to expect a substantial decrease in the aggradation of the Lower Yellow River in the near future, therefore the levee system along the lower reaches should be strengthened and some engineering or other measures should be adopted for the sake of flood prevention. Under the present circumstances, to make avulsions taking place in a prearranged course and to enlarge the scope of delta as big as possible would be the only economic and effective measures to minimize the influence of extension of river course upon the agg radation in Lower Yellow River.
