Abstract Ever since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Israel on January 24, 1992, their economic and trade relations have seen substantial development under their joint efforts: Firstly, their bilateral trade volume has grown by a big margin, reaching $140 millions in the first six months of 1995, a 180 per cent increase compared with $51. 47 millions for the year 1992; Secondly,the two countries have continually broadened the fields of cooperation: China has actively openned up multi-field cooperation in labour service in Israel, while Israel has found broad markets of cooperation in China in fields like agricultural technolodgy, medical equipment, food processing, electronics and communications, etc.;Thirdly, the two sides have kept on strengthenning exchange in high and new technology, with China importing more and more from Israel, especially in fields of tele-communication equipment, colour-printing plant and farming technique.As the economies of the two countries are highly complimentary with each other, there is great potential for the development of their economic and trade cooperation. At the same time, opportunities and challenges do exist side by side owing to various factors. At present, it is imperative to further improve the relevant agreements between the two governments, making necessary adjustments and additions to the related regulations according to the objective reality, so as to create more favourable conditions for further expanding their cooperation.

Abstract There is striking similarity between the financial crises in Mexico and Thailand: (1) unsound exchange rate system and lack of information exchanges between investors and the governments; (2) incomplete financial systems, weak economic control, unhealthy structure and improper use of foreign capital; (3) over-speed in opening to the outside; (4) slow in making reaction to the changed domestic and international situation, neglecting the signs of economic crisis; (5) under direct or indirect influences of big powers. Their differences lie in: (1) Both motive forces of the two crises were related to the imperfect outward-oriented economic policies of the two countries, but the starting point of the two governments in making these policies are different; (2) The revulsion of hot money which triggered the two economic crises had something to do with the deterioration of the investment climate, but the deterioration took on different features in the two countries. (3) the repercussions of the two crises differed; (4) The time and financial capacity needed for the renovation and recovery of the two countries are diversified and the states which aided them are not the same. The crises remind us of the following lessons: being cautious to accord with the world market's rules; paying attention to the control over the amount, structure and flow of the foreign capital; strengthening micro-economic control by the government; and concentrating on internal economic development.
