The preliminary optimization results of cast steel stave show that the better value values of cooling channel interval,inner radius of water channel,thickness of the cooling stave body,thickness of cast-in brick and speed of cooling water are 200 mm,20 mm,180 mm,70 mm and 2.0 m/s respectively.

This article for the first time deals with the problems of the forest railway car optimization. It applies the DDDU-2 program system to the research of forest railway cars. Three constraints are considered in optimization: the stress constraint, the displacement constraint and the side constraint. Through 5 interations, the weight of the structure reduces by 24.4％; the distribution of stress tends uniformly and the optimization result is quite satisfactory.
