In our early work, we suggested that the metallic Ni were strong active sites for hydrocracking reactions. In this paper, in order to explain the role of the oxidation state of nickel in the reactions taking place on NiZSM- 5 catalysts, the nature of active sites for the conversion of xylene,toluene and n hexane over various Ni-containing ZSM 5 zeoiites were investigated. The results showed that under the reaction conditions, the isomerization of xylene Was observed only on the HZSM 5 zeolite, no disproportionation of xylene was observed. In the case of NiZSM -5 zeolites, the activity of xylene conversion decreased with the increase of Ni~(2+) ions content. Dealkylation occured simul- taneously. So, the Ni~(2+) ions are shown to be week active sites for cracking, and non active for isomerization. After reduction,the dealkylations of xylene, toluene were mainly observed. The metallic Ni, whioh not only catalyzes the hydrogenation of coke precursors, but is also active for catalytic cracking of hydrocarbons, are strong active sites for hydrocracking reaction. It, however, has no activity for isomerization. No disproportionat ions of toluene and xylene were observed either.

Based on field investigations and analyses of geological-geophysical information from Pearl River Mouth Basin and its neighboring region, the active faults in the region are divided into NE, NEE, and NW three struetural systems, and four types (strong-active, medium-active, weak-active, and micro-active).There is an obvious correlation among the activities of fractures, mag-matism, and the evolution of the basin.According to the relation of seismic activities and active faults, the earthquake subzone of Northern South China Sea Continental Margin is classified into three earthquake belts (Binghai, Qionglei and Dongsha-Hainan), and twelve potential focal zones. Pearl River Mouth Basin is considered a comparatively good area in regional stability.And the stabilities of the three belts in the basin, in a descending order are ZHU I -ZHU Ⅲ -ZHU Ⅱ. It is favorable to important engineering projects that the cities in the Special Economic Zone along the coast of South China Sea. such as Zhuhai, Shenzhen, Shantou and so on. are situated in medium-active or weak-active belts, far from Binghai strong-active belt.
