The structure was solved by heavy-atom method and absolute configuration determined with the anomalous-scattering technique.The atomic coordinate and temperature factors were refined to a final R value of 0.0459.

The electrical re-sistance of such samples is estimated by the vol-tage drop at the mid-region When a very feebleelectrical current is applied at their terminals.Electrical resistance of a plant tissue to appliedcurrent is essentially made up of two compon-ents: the external resistance of its cellulose fra-mework (electrical resistance of apoplast); andthe internal resistance (electrical resistance ofsymplast). The latter can further be resolvedinto: (1) plasmic membrane resistance to theentry and exit of applied current; (2) total re-sistance of the cell units that constitute the tissue;and (3) total resistance of the intercellular plas-modesmatal connections in the tissue (Fig. 3).Electrical resistance measurements have oftenbeen carried out on woody segments where thesipoplast constitutes a major part of the structure.The consensus of opinion is that the appliedcurrent mainly follows the apoplastic route,and the magnitude of tissue resistance dependsupon the electrical conductivity of apoplast.According to this opinion, the tissue is assumedto be made up of discrete cell units and devoidof intercellular electrical coupling, and thesymplast takes no part in the current flow. Such is not the case, however, in the pre-ent investigation. In the samples taken, thesymplast is primarily responsible for the cur-rent flow and the external cellulose frameworkis of little concern. This can be clearly shownby the results that the electrical resistance oftender plant tissues increases 3-fold as comparedwith that of control, after the preparation hasbeen thoroughly plasmolyzed with 1 mol / Lmannitol at the mid-region. On the other hand,the electrical resistance of the tissue segmentdoes not change appreciably with the electricalconductivity of the external solution in whichthe segment has been soaked previously. Plas-molysis is known to sever most of the intercel-lular plasmodesmatal connections, while itexerts little effect on the electrical conductanceof the cell membrane. Estimate has thus beenmade that about 75~93% of the applied cur-rent flows through the symplast of the tendertissue, i. e., the symplast resistance is main com-ponent of the tissue resistance. Besides, the simplified equivalent circuitof a plant tissue has been built and discussedin present paper.

This paper proposes a formula to calculate the interplanar distance by using the vectors in the reciprocal lattice which is constructed from the primitive vectors of conventional unit cell (unit cell).With bcc and fcc as examples, the interplanar distances of some families of crystal planes are calculated in the paper.
