The adsorptive quantities were measured quantitively by ultraviolet spectrophotometery. The results showed that the adsorption quantity of the phenol derivatives was decreased when the watersolubility of the same compound was increased.There was a relationship found between the adsorption quantity and the position of the substitu-ted groups of the phenol compounds. The highest adsorption quantity of phenol derivatives was obtai-ned by the H-103 resin. The NKA resin was next, but it adsorbed all the phenol compounds comple-tely and did not leak in advance (proleak). The NKA resin showed this special adsorption action with the hydrophilic phenol derivatives. We believe these two resins (H-103, NKA) are better than XAD-4 resin for adsorbing phenolic compounds.In brief, when a macroreticular resin has the proper aperture, a high specific surface area and hte proper polarity, excellent adsorption of phenol derivatives can be obtained.

Methods of modified coal tar pitch for preparing high specific surface area activated carbon were studied.A high specific surface area activated carbon with specific surface area approaching to 2369.3m2/g was prepared.The influence of material pre-process and heat-blowing process on adsorption properties of activated carbon was investigated.
