The influence of rainfall on the yield of winter wheat in North China has been estimated by the application of R. A. Fisher's method of orthogonal polynomials. Data of winter wheat yield during 1955—57 of 11 localities in North China have been used.The results show:1) a high correlation between the total rainfall of the growing season and the yield,2) an increase in the yield caused by an additional rainfall at any time during the growing season,3) the highest effect of additional rainfall on the yield...

The influence of rainfall on the yield of winter wheat in North China has been estimated by the application of R. A. Fisher's method of orthogonal polynomials. Data of winter wheat yield during 1955—57 of 11 localities in North China have been used.The results show:1) a high correlation between the total rainfall of the growing season and the yield,2) an increase in the yield caused by an additional rainfall at any time during the growing season,3) the highest effect of additional rainfall on the yield occurs during early wintering and around blooming stages. During these two stages every additional milimeter of rainfall may increase 0.4—0.45. catty per mou.

1.Anilides of N-isovaleryl,N-caproyl,N-benzoyl and N-carbobenzoxy-L-serine were prepared from aniline and the corresponding acyl-DL-serine under the influence of papain.2.The optimal pH for the asymmetric synthesis of acyl-DL-serine with carproyl group was found to lie around pH 4.9-5.1 and those with carbobenzoxy group,pH 5.0-5.2.3.The rate of formation of the four acyl-L-serine anilide was studied.It was found that,under comparable conditions,the rate of formation of N-carbobenzoxy-L-serine anilide is the fastest,followed in decreasing order by those of N-carproyl-,N-benzoyl,and N-isovaleryl-L-serine anilide.4.Under the optimal pH and an enzyme concentration of 1.13 mg N/ml,the yield of the N-carbobenzoxy-L-serine anilide was 76.4 % after 12 hours.When the enzyme concentration was raised to 2.27 mg N/ml,the yield after 12 hours reached 100%.5.The effect of citrate buffer concentration on the yield of anilide formation was also investigated.A change of buffer concentration from 0.2 M to 1.0 M effected an 1% increase in the yield of N-carbobenzoxy-L-serine anilide after 12 hours.6.The optimal conditions for the asymmetric synthesis are as follows: acyl group : carbobenzoxy groupoptimal pH : 5.0-5.2enzyme concentration:2.2 mg N/mlbuffer concentration : 0.2 MUnder these conditions four N-acyl-DL-serine were resolved respectively into N-acyl-L-serine anilide and N-acyl-D-serine and separated.All the four N-acyl-L-serine anilides and the N-carbobenzoxy-D-serine were hydrolyzed to free amino acid.The yields in the case of N-carbobenzoxy derivative were respectively 68.0% and 68.4% by the theoretical amount calculated from the DL-serine.Both the optical isomers have good optical purity.

Under the guidance of Chairman Mao's revolutionary line and inspired by the spirit of "self-reliance and hard struggle", we have continued our studies on the application of RNA hydrolyzate in agriculture. In a previous paper it was reported that the RNA hydrolyzate brought about an increase in the yield of rice. This report describes the effect of RNA hydrolyzate on the physiological activities of rice plants.(1) RNA hydrolyzate has been shown to enhance the photosynthetic activity of rice leaves as well as stimulate transportation of ~(14)C-labeled photosynthetic compounds to the root tissues.(2) Using ~(32)P-phosphate and ~(42)K-potassium chloride as indicators, it has been shown that RNA hydrolyzate sprays significantly promote the absorption by the roots of the rice seedling of minerals from the soil.(3) The amount of ~(32)P-phosphate incorporated into organic components in plants treated with RNA hydrolyzate is higher than that in control plants.It is concluded that the combined action of these effects creates favourable conditions for the growth of rice seedlings treated with RNA hydrolyzate and lead to increase in rice production.

水稻苗期于插秧前1~3天,喷施核酸降解产物,同位素示踪研究表明,插秧后促进了光合产物向根部的输送,移栽后当天增加一倍以上,至移栽后第14天仍比对照增加14%,并促进了根部的磷酸化。核酸降解产物的喷施,移栽后对磷肥,钾肥的吸收能力都比对照有显著的增加,同时也提高了水稻地上部分的光合作用强度。核酸降解产物并有维持叶片活力的作用。这些为水稻插秧后促进其活棵返青快,早发增蘖,增穗而增产提供了生理条件。
