The present paper gives the results of an analysts of the transient process of discharge by the Laplace transformation method. Observations of the discharge voltage and current were made with an oscillograph. From our study, a general knowledge of the characteristic of such a discharge circuit and the influence of the parameters on line intensities were obtained.

C. Rogers's explanation about the formation and theproperty of the semi-conductor film is correct. The paper designates the limita-tion of the existing formula for calculating the inception discharge voltage; it alsoclarifies the mechanism of the metamorphosis of glow discharge in to flake dis-charge in the cavity. Finally, it points out that the self-diminishing of dischargemay assuage the damage to insplation, if the cavity is small in size.

The experimenting device used was a hollow cathode with a discharge length of 1.2 meters and a slot cross-section of 2x6 mm. The single pass gain of the laser has been estimated at 5.8% per meter.
