Several methods for determination of design standard of bending moment are presented, such as the design standard of bending moment may be determined by the probability of joint distribution of waveheight and wavelength at severe sea state, or by using' the rule of "3σ"or "4σ" (σstandard deviation) adopted from statistics. After consideration of problems existing in statistical analysis of waveinduced bending moment of ships, the following conclusions are made: (1) The investigation of design standard of waveinduced bending moment is based upon the strength of an actual ship. (2) Fullscale ship trials of shortterm and longterm must be carried out. This report gives a method for computation of waveinduced, bowflare slamming and bottom impact bending moments in time domain.The wave model assumed is the superposition, in random phases, of regular waves of various amplitudes and frequencies in accordance to a given sea spectra. Then, the relative motions and waveinduced moments expressed as time histories may be represented by the superposition of corresponding regularwave responses in the same random phases.The bowflare slamming moment is substantially a correction to the waveinduced moment according to the linear theory by consideration of nonlinear buoyancy forces and inertial hydrodynamic forces as suggested by Kaplan. In the determination of slamming load, Smith correction is considered.It is known that the magnitude of bottom impact load cannot be evaluated accurately by the momentum theory of variation of water added mass (especially for ships with wide flat bottom). In this report, the well established ship motion calculation is combined with the informations about experimental slamming pressure values given by Ochi et al. The essential points are: l)Using ship motion time histories, determine the time instants satisfying the slamming condition r =T, r≤  r*, and the corresponding relative velocities; 2 ) according to the magnitudes of relative velocities and section contours, determine the spatial and time distribution of slamming pressure using available experimental results (such as max. pressure, duration etc.); and 3 ) integraing along each section the vertical pressure components at corresponding time instants, which gives the bottom impact load timespace distribution Pbi (xb, t ).The ship girder whipping responses are computed by the wellknown modal method of analysis.By the above procedure, two ships A & B of different forms are tabulated to compare the computed and trial results. Ship A is a fast ship with bulbous stem and a large bow flare, while ship B is a full ship with flat bottom and light draft.
