Microwave irradiation and enzymatic catalysis are two powerful tools in modern organic syntheses. A new trend in catalyzing organic syntheses is to utilize these two means simultaneously, which can be called microwave irradiation enzyme coupling catalysis (MIECC). MIECC technique can be divided into two categories such as enzymatic synthesis under microwave irradiation in non/micro aqueous media (wet method) and without media (dry method). The recent progress in this research field is reviewed and the typical MIECC reactions are highlighted. The mechanism of MIECC, especially the microwave induced "athermal action" in bio catalysis systems is briefly discussed theoretically.
