Hydration of high alumina cements made by sintering process in rotary kiln is investiga-ted. Under 20℃ curing, the main hydration products of all of the three kinds of cements with successive higher CaO/Al_2O_3 ratios are CAH-(10) (not C_2AH_8) and alumina gel, i. e., they are essentially the same as the hydration products of the cement made by fusion process as generally reported. The hydration products of cement having a lower CaO/Al-2O_3 ratio or a higher CA_2 content are more stable.The formation of more basic hydrated aluminates (i. e., C_2AH_8 or C_3AH_6) and gibbsite of this kind of cement occurs at a higher curing tempera-ture.While the latter subjects to the same curing temperature as the cement of higher CaO/Al_2O_3,its initial products will be stable unless it subjects to a longer curing.Under various curing tempe-ratures, the variation of strength of the three cements can be explained by the difference in stability of the hydration products, cement of higher CaO/Al_2O_3 ratio providing the lowest thermal stability of the hydrated products and decreasing in strength of the paste under higher temperature.

Even in the high concentrated NaOH solution (0.7mol/L) with pH=13.28, the ettringite formed is not amorphous but crystalline. With the increase of NaOH concentration, concentration of CaO in the liquid phase contacted with the pastes decreases while eoncentration of Al_2O_3 increases. The expansion caused by ettringite does not always depend upon the saturation degree with respect to CaO but depends on the pH value of liquid phase in which ettringite is formed. The expansion caused by ettringite formed in a liquid phase with lower CaO concentration but higher pH value is higher than that in liquid phase with higher CaO concentration but lower pH value. The higher the pH value of liquid phase, the greater expansion will be caused by ettringite.

They are both in form of volcanic cones with area less than 0.2 km~2.The volcanic rocks are mainly consisted of basanites and alkali-olivine basalts with abundance of ultramafic inclusions-spinel lherzolites which characterised by inequigranular and porphyroclastic textures.The basaltic rocks in composition belong to the potash subseries of alkaline series and are characterized by higher CaO, K_2O+Na_2O and TiO_2, and lower SiO_2 and Al_2O_3. Except for enrichment of the incompatible elements, such as P, K and Ti, the basalts, have higher Al_2O_3/CaO ratio, with M value=60-70, index of consolidation nearly to 40 and degree of melting=4%. All these features indicate that the basaltic rocks are product driven from the mantle peridotite.The fusible components of the ultramafic inclusions are similar to that of fertile mantle. The olivines and the orthopyroxenes in the ultramafic inclusions have lower Fo and En respectively, and the clinopyroxenes are characterized by higher Al_2O_3, TiO_2 and Na_2O. The calculated temperature and pressure for the lherzolites are confined to 1050℃ and 21.6×10~8 Pa respectively. The basaltic rocks have a high REE abundance with enrichment of LREE, and La/Yb=15.63. The REE abundance of ultramafic inclusions approaches to that of the primary mantle.
