The interconnection of heterogeneous networks is another practical problem, including both hardware and software considerations. The most important issue of this section is how to select protocols or protocol suites to achieve intercommunication. TCP/IP is mostly used as chief protocols in this area because this protocol suite can communicate other kinds of systems very well. Applications are built upward protocols, which face directly to the user's demands. Client/Server mode is widely used currently in remote database query, event processing and other kind of applications. Complex networks also need advanced network management system to ensure proper operation. Intelligent network management is one of the research focuses of the Golden Bridge Network Engineering Center and is introduced in brief in this paper.
