Finally, an example is given to illustrate the application of such algorithms.

The basis of the selection is:1 ) a linear time - discrete controller, 2 ) a limited range of the control variable, 3)an initial deviation which is given in accordance with the practical requirement to the control system. The performance index of the system is expressed in a time --continuous, quadratic, deviation loss function and a similar control-loss function.Controllers parameters are computed by standard LQ -methods for different sampling periods. The control weighting coefficient in the loss function is chosen so that full use of the control range is obtained, given the initial deviation. The final sampling periods and controller parameters are selected as a compromise between the deviation loss and the control loss. The procedure is especially useful when the longest possible sampling period is required.
