To test the validity of NTG attenuation in stimulating immunity, C3H mice were also percutaneously immunized twice with 40 cercariae treated for 30 or 60 minutes in 30 μg/ml concentration of NTG and 60 minutes in 20 μg/ml concentration of NTG six and eight weeks prior to challenge. A worm reduction rate of 39. 2% was achieved in the 20μg/ml-60 minutes group. This reduction in worm burden was proved to be significantly different from the control group by Student's t value, but it was considerably lower than the published reduction rates achieved by X-irradiation attenuation, and was more comparable to published rates resulting from concomitant immunity.At the same time, C3H mice were infected twice with 200 cercariae treated with 30 μg/ml NTG for 60 minutes six and eight weeks prior to challenge.
