On the basis of these discussions are given the experimental results of the grinding forces and the temperature distributions in the ground surface layer during surface grinding of the titanium alloy (Ti-6AI-4V) and the carbon steel(45°).Aoeording to the experimental results quantitative comparison and analysis are made in several respects of the grindability of titanium alloys and carbon steels. This shows that the peak temperature on the workpiece surface of titanium alloys is not much higher than that of carbon steels under the grinding conditions of this experiment,while the grinding ratio of Ti-6Al-4V is only about 1/45 that of 45# steel. The grinding chips of titanium considerably adhere to the abrasive cutting edges. From the experimental results, we find that, the main reason titanium alloys are hard to grind is not the high temperatures existing in grinding area,but the drastic chemical affinity of titanium alloys for, abrasive materials. Therefore, an intensive research, which seems to be the key to the fundamental improvement of the grindability of titanium alloys, should be carried on for the mechanism of the chemical affinity and for the inhibition of as much affinity as possible by selecting the best type of abrasive materials, and the suitable grinding fluid, and the optimal grinding speed.Attached to the end of this paper is a general computing programe for regression analysis of the experimental data, applicable to metal cutting experiments.

For quantitative comparison of the damages elicited by A_5 and A_2, fifty capillaries from each animal treated with either component were examined and the percentage of injured capillaries was calculated for each group. It was found that higher percentages of injured capillaries occurred in the lungs of the mice treated with A_2 than those treated with A_5. As it is known that lung toxicity is the most severe side effect of bleomycin and that bleomycin A_2 is the main component in the bleomycin complex which is now available for clinical use, the observation that bleomycin A_5 is less toxic for the mouse lung while displaying approximately the same therapeutic effect in experimental animals as compared with A_2 suggests that further investigations on bleomycin A_5 as an antitumor agent might be desirable.

Setting the condition of building damage as an index, the quantitative comparison table from degree VI to degree XI has been compiled preliminarily, and, as an example, five poin s of Songpan-Pingwu Earthquake in 1976(M = 7.2) are checked interna 1y. Two points among the five are corrected slightly, while the rest are approved affirmatively. This is in conformity with the actual cond tions. Besides, the general method of evaluating the earthquake intensity by using fuzzy mathematics is discussed providing the possibility of quantitative treatment by computer for empirical judging the earthquake intensity.It is considered that the prospect for using the technique of fuzzy mathematics in engineering seismology is captivating.
