In this paper the formula of deflection of the tube scanner for PSTM is de- rived. The deflection range, its linear and the x-z coupling are analyzed. A useful method has been developed to make optical fiber probe tips with smooth surface. A new experimental method to measure the deflection of PZT is reported. The experimental data are consistent with theory results. Therefore, some key problems in both theory and technigne for PSTM can be resolved.

A translation mechanism driven by piezoelectric actuators is presented which was primarily devised for use in precision measurement and machining with SPM.Two types of X and Y 2-D translation stage are proposed to suit the scanning need of SPM in high speed and in low speed respectively. The piezo-driven compound four- bar flexure mechanism is used in low speed scanning, while the piezoelectric tube scanner is used in high speed scanning. A translation mechanism driven by piezoelectric actuators is presented which was primarily devised for use in precision measurement and machining with SPM.Two types of X and Y 2-D translation stage are proposed to suit the scanning need of SPM in high speed and in low speed respectively. The piezo-driven compound four- bar flexure mechanism is used in low speed scanning, while the piezoelectric tube scanner is used in high speed scanning. The dynamic micro-displacement in Z direction is also achieved through controlling the tube scanner. By adding high DC voltage on the stacked actuators, small angular adjustment can be fufilled to keep the relative vertical relationship between the sharp tip and the sample. In low speed scanning, the undesirable cross -couplings among X.,Y and Z directions are totally removed, thus greatly improving the measuring accuracy of SPM. The piezo errors are eliminated by designing the feedback system to reach linear displacement output. It is demonstrated that the accuracy and resolution of the mechanism are 10nm and Znm respectively within 10pm range. When the scanning range is within 1μm, the positioning resolution can reach 0. 5nm.

微位移技术是扫描探针显微镜的核心技术之一,直接影响着SPM的测量精度,因此设计出高精度的多自由度微位移机构具有重大的意义。本文设计了一种适用于SPM的五自由度的微位移工作台,它从结构上解决了交叉误差,同时又兼顾低速和高速扫描的需要。此定位系统在10μm运动范围内定位精度为10um,定位分辨力高于1nm。在1μm运动范围内定位系统最小位移分辨力高达0.5nm。
