From the experimental results' it can be seen that, within the experimental range, the effect of the outletweir height W upon E_(ML) is equally appreciable as the effect of the gas and liquid rates, A new correlation was obtained for N_L from experimental data:N_L=(D_L/2.42×10~(-5))~(1/2) (0.32C~0.30 F+0.03)t_L. The two numerical examples for industrial columns given in the A. I. Ch. E. "Bubble-Tray Design Manual" were recalculated using this new correlation for N_L in place of the corresponding one in the A. I. Ch. E. method, it was shown that by using this new correlation it is possible to obtain a result with a higher accuracy.

The interrelationship between the regimes, liquid entrainment ratios and clear liquid height is obtained and two inversion points are defined. The mechanism and the physical model of the contact regimes are discussed and tentative correlations of the phase inversion points composed of dimensionless groups are proposed.

Gas-liquid contact behavior on a 1 m diameter modified Hy-Contact valve tray model has been studied with air/water system. Spray, mixed froth and froth regimes exist under ordinary conditions with the mixed froth regime as the prevalent one within normal vapor/liquid load range. Spray regime is likely to occur at high vapor load, low liquid rate and low weir height and develops both in vertical and in longitudinal directions along the tray.The interrelationship between the spray/mixed froth/froth regime-liquid entrainment ratio-clear liquid height was studied. The transition of regimes and the hydrodynamics of two phase contact were discussed. Three methods for the correlation of regime transition were tried and dimensionless groups equations were proposed.
