The author argues, from the prospective of history didactics, that in order to make sense of the world, especially of today's world, textbooks and curricula must embrace world history. The author indicates that the world’s history might help teachers and students to understand that‘the world’is not‘out there’somewhere, but that it saturates our lives and that we are part of it; it might help to endure the ambiguities of this modern world, and it might aid in resisting the temptation to turn to fundamentalism....
