By examining root-tip preparations, the protective effects of Mecaptoethanol (ME),Adenine (Ad) and Serotonin Creatinine Sulfate (SCS) against γ-irradiation injury in germinating wheat were investigated. Results obtained from observations on mitotic index, rate of chromosome aberration and formation of micronucleated cell are shown as follows:The protective effects of SCS pretreatment appeared to be the best. For example, by pretreating the grains in 2.0mM of SCS 24 hours before irradialion, the mitotic index of root-tip from γ-irradiated wheat was elevated by 58% (9.3kGy) or by 95%(27.5kGy); the rate of chromosome aberration was lessened by 9.5%(9.3kGy) or by 20%(27.5kGy); while the rate of micronuclea-ted cell was inhibited by 34%(9.3kGy) or 88%(27.5kGy), all are in com-paration with their controls respectively. The protective effects of ME or Ad were less significant than SCS.We suggested that soaking seed in 2.0mM of SCS for 24 hours before irradiation can be taken as a measure in radiation breeding for lessening the M1 damage and for expanding the mutagenic range.

The spleen lymphocyte electrophoretic mobility was used as an indicator for determining the effect of vitamin E (VE) oa protecting the spleen lymphocyte membrane from irradiation injury. It is suggested that the protective effect of VE on modification of SL-EPM induced by irradiation may be due to keeping the stability of cell membrane.

本实验研究是以脾淋巴细胞电泳率(SL-EPM)为指标,探讨维生素E(VE)对脾淋巴细胞膜辐射损伤的防护作用。结果表明:小鼠经过含100ppm VE的饲料饲喂6周,VE对4.8Gy X-射线照射所引起的SL-EPM修饰产生明显的辐射防护效应;全身照射实验与体外照射实验的结果是一致的。据此可认为,VE对辐射所致SL-EPM修饰的抑制作用,是VE维持细胞膜稳定性的一种生理功能。
