Except for earthquakes occurred in Taiwan and Himalayan region as well as the deep-seated swarm earthquakes in Northeast China, all of earthquakes in China are attributed to intraplate earthquake. Then, what are their origins?In the present paper, the emphasis is placed on the crustal stress field related closely with the earthquakes in recent and the youngest geological time in China. Data from geology, seismology, and geodesy demonstrate that in North China there is a significant change of stress field in middle Tertiary, while in the rest areas of China the crustal stress field remains principally unchanged since middle Mesozoic. It is suggested that the pattern and variation of the crustal stress field in China are caused by the action of plates surrounding the mainland of China.However, intraplate earthquakes in China are not only connected with the plate tectonics, they also depend upon the remarkable features of fault block tectonics in the mainland of China. It is noted that some deep geological features found in the seismic areas are a very important clue for studying the origins of intraplate earthquake.

This paper analyzes and discusses the distributions, types and geological structures of the 13 reservoir-induced earthquakes in China. The reservoir earthquakes in China are mostly distributed in the peneseismic and weak seismic areas, where are in low strain state, and the equilibrium state of their strain can be easily changed by the impoundment of the reservoir. The oc-curances of the reservoir-induced earthquakes in China are far more effected by the geological structures and the hydrogeological conditions...

The oc-curances of the reservoir-induced earthquakes in China are far more effected by the geological structures and the hydrogeological conditions of those area rather than the seismic activity frequency there. The reservoirs that induce earthquakes can be regarded as the "window" for prying into seismic activities of the area. The chart of seismic activities in large areas may be helpful to making assessment of the attenuation process of the induced earthquakes. Finally, the paper puts forward that the reservoir-induced earthquakes should be classified into two types:"swarm earthquake type" and foreshock-mainshock -aftershock type". Their characteristics and formaticn pormation processes are different from each other.

本文对中国13座水库诱发地震的分布、地质构造背景和诱发地震类型进行了分析讨论。文章指出,中国的水库地震主要分布于少震区和弱震区,这些地区处于低应变状态,水库蓄水较易于改变其应力平衡状态。中国的震例还表明,水库诱发地震的形成受区域地震活动水平的影响远远逊于库区的地质构造和水文地质条件的控制。诱发地震的水库可以成为窥测区域地震活动的“窗口”,可以根据大区域地震活动图象对水库诱发地震的衰减过程作出某种判断。最后,本文提出,水库诱发地震宜划分为“震群型’。和“前震—主震—余震型”两类,它们的特征和形成机制有所不同。

In this paper, the author has studied the realtionship between the seismic fractal structure and monthly frequency tendency variation in the areas near Changdao and the medium-strong earthquake activity in Bohai sea, Shandong and its neighbourhood. The results show that in an active period of medium-strong or above earthquake activity in the three large areas, there exists the fractal structure and the frequency of small-magnitude earthquake activity appears higher tendentiously in the"window"area;...

In this paper, the author has studied the realtionship between the seismic fractal structure and monthly frequency tendency variation in the areas near Changdao and the medium-strong earthquake activity in Bohai sea, Shandong and its neighbourhood. The results show that in an active period of medium-strong or above earthquake activity in the three large areas, there exists the fractal structure and the frequency of small-magnitude earthquake activity appears higher tendentiously in the"window"area; in an active period of higher-magnitude earthquake activity, the fractal value is lower while at the end of the period it is higher; and the fractal structure will disappear when the quiet stage of earthquake activity comes. In addition, the short-term and impending precursor feature of the monthly frequency variation of small earthquake activity in Changdao area has been studied. The results reveal that if the abnormal phenomena of the monthly frequency of the earthquake activity in Changdao area emerge 8 or 14 times or more, then, in one or five months the following earthquakes will occur, including earthquakes (M = 4.0)in the three large areas; events (M=4.5) and swarm earthquakes with a main shock (M = 4.0) within the range of 200 km$ and ones (M=5.5) within the range of 600 km. The conclusions show that the small earthquake activity in Changdao area is related to the medium-strong earthquake activity in Bohai sea and its neighbourhood. Changdao is an "earthquake window".

本文研究了长岛附近地区地震分维结构及月频度趋势性变化与渤海、山东及邻区大范围中强地震活动的关系,得出:大区中强以上地震活跃阶段,研究区存在分维结构,小震活动频度出现趋势性增强;中强以上地震活跃期间分维值较低,活跃阶段将要结束时分维值较高,进入地震平静阶段分维结构不存在。还研究了长岛小震月频度变化的短临前兆特征,得出长岛区地震活动对本区Ms4级以上地震、200公里范围内4.5级以上地震及主震为4.0级的震群、600公里范围内5.5级以上地震,长岛月频度一般在震前1至5个月内会出现8或14次以上的异常现象。反映了长岛小震活动对监视渤海及邻区大范围中强以上地震活动具有一定的窗口作用。
