In view of the disadvantages of the commonly used prophylactic repair mode for such power equipments as generators and transformers, the significance of developing state monitoring and fault diagnosis technique is analyzed, and the state~of~the~art and existing problems of the technique are described. It is concluded that this technique can rapidly and continuously reflect the operation status of equipments and predict the latent faults in them; hence it is effective in ensuring the safe and economic operation...
