In this paper, the dependence of the ship resistance in the still water on the ship forms for several ships with block coefficients around 0.8, with and without bulb-bows,is analysised. It has been shown that in the design of hull forms for such high block coefficient ships, the attention must be payed to resistance performance both in the full load and ballast conditions. Based on these analysis, the trade off in the design of hull form is discussed. It is suggested that filling a bulb bow of adeguate size is one of the effec- tive ways to improve the resisteance performance in ballast condition. A comparision of the results of model resistance tests for four parent hull forms shows that using the tanker series SSPA and series 60 for forebody and afterbody forms is suitable to ship forms with block coefficients around 0.8. Considerable improvements in resistance performance in the ballast con- dition and practically no inflance in the full load condition has been found for one of the investigated bulb-bows.

We consider that the develop-ment of CAMAC system will especially benefit the providing of different typesof systems within a shorter period of time. The crate controller for interfacingModel DJS-131 computer is designed for the purpose described above. DJS-131computer is a general purpose minicomputer designed and produced in China, withword length of 16 bits and operation rate of 500 kilocycles per second, whichhave been already equipped in many laborateries in our country. This crate con-troller will facilitate potential applications of CAMAC system. The crate controlleris a triple width module which is connected to the computer I/O bus via frontpanel edge connector. It is conformed fully with mandatory requirements of theCAMAC specification EUR 4100e(1972). The crate controller is designed to provideprogrammed I/O transfer and data channel (DCH) I/O transfer. Program I/Otransfer includes single I/O transfer and block transfer in address scan mode. 16-bitcommand register A is used to store NAF and two feature bits MA and MN, whichare used to define the rules of address modification in scan mode. The 24-bit dataregister consists of 16-bit register B and 8-bit register C. DCH transfer of131 Computer is the direct memory access transfer, which is performed to accessdata block at high speed. It is manipulated by DCH control logic circuit of thecrate controller during DCH transfer. Register A with DCH address is used to storememory address, and is automatically incremented when one word is transferred.In order to match the computer with DCH mode, 16-bit word is used here, and themaximum block contains 4096 words. In order to obtain the highest block transferrate, the special timing sequence has been arranged in the controller, which enableDCH transfer to continue without being interrupted. CAMAC system for automaticmeasurement based on this crate controller has been established in Shanghai Instru-ment Institute. It is used to test the reference Zener diode accurately and to findout the working area at zero temperature coefficient. The crater controller hasalso been successfully used in an energy spectrum multichannel analyser in CAMACsystem.

Among them the deflection measurement at El. 1715 gallery which locates onlg 24m below the dam crest is one of main items. It is of vital importance for monitoring dam performance. This paper presents in some detail the methods in both statistically analgsing and interpeting the measurement data of this item. Several interesting and significant conclusions which revealed some peculiarities of the dam behavior have been drawn. Yet the methods developed here are for the given situation only, however, they mag be general for their applications. Bg the way, a few recommendations were made to improve the observation work and the installation of devices. In our opinion formulation of the statistical model merits close scruting in advance of analysis and has been discussed at length in this paper. Great effort was made to take all physical factors related to the dam into consideration though it is onlg a matter of statistics. Besides employing step-wise regression analysis, we even took two models MI and M Ⅱas shown in the paper for comparison in order that the so called optimal regression equations could be finalized. Intending to deeply investigate how the dam responds to its surrounding calleng- ing factors, we tried to make full use of step-wise regression analysis and decompose the deflection into components δ_H, δ_T and δ_θ. This, of course, can be accomplished due to the fact that the remaining terms in the resulting equation are either noncorrelative or correlative one another to a neglegible degree. This has been proven feasible in our analysis. Here onlg the deflection of the highest block V, 147m high, was manipulated in the wag mentioned above. δ_HV. the component due to reservoir stage and δ_(TV), that due to temperature change have been worked out. It indicates that the water stage gives a little greater effect on the defle- ction than the temperature does. And as it can be expected, δ_(HV) oscillates exactly as the water stage H does, for it takes the form δ_(HV)=0.117812(H-84.38) linealy related to H, while δ_(TV), shown below oscillates with a lag of about two months to the gearlg change of the air temperature, though they still closely relates to each other. δ_(TV)=-0.085407〔P_(A6-15)-9.1〕-0.064512〔T_(A6-23)-9.7〕 -0.214041(〔J_(A6-15)-14.5〕+0.30523〔S_(RA6-45)-8.9〕 Where P_(A6-15) and the like are signs of related thermometer readings.
