In the first part, the working equations of velocity tapered TWT are deduced theoretically. This paper presents a computer program for TWT with double velocity jump and describes the calculated results and comparison of them with experimental data. The comparison shows that they are rather close. Therefore this program can be used for the design and selection of the TWT with the double velocity jump.

This paper introduces the concept of vectorial splines from[α, b] to Banach space X. The continuity of the tangent and the curvature of vectorial splines is explicated. The existence and uniqueness of the vec(?)oaial splines are moved. The working equations of the vectorial splines and their solving are given. If a deformable body is in equilibrium, the forces are certainly in equilibrium. However, it is not true vice versa. The two concepts of equilibrium are identical only if the body is cut into infinite elements (differential elements).It has been proved that, the virtual work equation (total virtual work done by the external forces acting on the body equals to the sum of work done by the external and internal boundary forces of each element on its virtual deformation displacement) is the necessary and sufficient condition only for equilibrium between the external and internal boundary forces. The virtual work equation is the necessary and sufficient condition for the equilibrium of the deformable body only when it is cut into infinite elements but not into finite elements.The sufficiency of virtual work principle is directly prove l through physical concepts in this paper so that it is better than through mathematical approach in revealing the physical essence.

本文指出当想象地把变形体切割成有限个元体时,外力和切割面内力所组成的力系的平衡和变形体的平衡是两个不同的概念。变形体平衡则该力系必然平衡,但该力系平衡,并不意味着变形体必然平衡。只有当把变形体切割成无限小的微元体时二者才等价。本文还证明:外力总虚功等于各元体上外力和切割面内力在虚变形位移上所作功之和(即虚功方程)只是外力和切割面内力平衡的必要和充分条件。因此,当把变形体切割成微元体时虚功方程也是变形体平衡的必要和充分条件;但当切割成有限个元体时,虚功方程就只是变形体平衡的必要条件,而不能构成充分条件。由于文中完全从物理概念出发给出了变形体虚功原理充分性的证明,从而比用数学方法更好地揭露出该原理的物理实质。
