The Gemini reentry module has negative damping in the al region at M<2.5.The blunt nose induced flow separation effect, the aft body flow reattachment effect,the boat-tail hear wake effect and the dynamic time lag effect are the opposite effects on static and dynamic stability.These effects causes increased static stability and decreased dynamic stability.The average effective pitch damping increases with increasing angle of oscillation amplitude and decreases with increasing Mach number.

Presents the effect of tail sting and the angle of boat tail on the base pressure of a projectile in flight at supersonic velocities. The base pressure goes through a process of reduction and then an increase when the relative diameter of the sting changes from 0 to 1. The angle of boat tail tends to increase the base pressure when the angle of boat tail is within the critical angle of separation.

The base drag of projectile can amount to as mach as one third of the total drag. Accurately measuring the base drag is the key of total drag measurement of projectile. During testing in supersonic wind tunnel,the model is supported in wind tunnel with a tail sting of balance at the base of model.
