These symptoos were similar to those elicited by the toxin on the host plant. The toxin induced a lesion spot on host leaf at concentration as low as 20 μg/ml glu. eq.A series of experiments indicated that the toxin is water soluble, insoluble in organic solvents, non-dializable, and high in molecular weight. Chemical analyses suggested that the toxin is largely a polysaccharide as it exhibits a positive Molish reaction, when hydrolysed to monosaccharides, and stable at 115℃ for 30' and in pH extremes. The phytotoxic substance was isolated with acetone and partially purified via procedures of gel filtrate and ion exchange chromatography. Partially purified toxin contained about 1.5% protein, the protein was not necessary for toxic activity. The toxic activity was somewhat reduced by periodate treatment, however its molecular weight does not deer crease. Finally the mode of this polysaccharide toxin on plants discussed in some details.

Chemical parameters have been extensively used to assess compost maturity .Because composting is a biochemical process and the compost maturity is related to phytotoxic substances in the immature compost ,it can also be assessed by biological methods . There is not an unanimous parameter to evaluate compost maturity till now.It is common to evaluate compost maturity with chemical and biological parameters together.

According to IR, MS, NMR spectra data, the structure of LA Ⅱ was elucidated as CH 3COSCOCH 3.

松针褐斑病 (Lecanostictaacicola)是中国南方松树上的一种重要病害。松针褐斑病菌的代谢产物中含有可致松针萎蔫的有毒物质 ,经Rp 1 8柱反复分离松针褐斑病菌的次生代谢产物 ,获得有活性的黄色固体物质 ,采用丙酮结晶和重结晶纯化得到一无色针状晶体 ,生测有活性 ,记为LA Ⅱ。高效液相检测表明 :LA Ⅱ为一纯物质。采用质谱、红外光谱、核磁共振等波谱手段分析可知 :LA Ⅱ分子量为 1 1 8,其化学组成为C4H6O2 S ,分子结构为CH3COSCOCH3。
