Results revealed that:The merozoites of Leucocytozoon caulleryi appeared to be round to oval in shape and were surrounded by two clearly marked membrances, i.e.a thin outer and a thick inner membrane. The merozoites possessed a large round to oval nucleus, a small nucleolus, numerous ribosomes,a mitochondria with tubular cristae and 1 - 2 large lipid inclusions. The micro- and macro-gametocytes were surrounded by 3-layered clearly marked membrane as in Leucocytozoon sabrazesi but in the mature gametocytes of L. caulleryi only 2-layered membrances were seen. The mature gametocytes were round or elliptical in shape and contained a nucleus, numerous ribosomes, food vacueles, lipid inclusions and endoplasmic reticulum in the cytoplasm. The microgametocytes were smaller than macroga-metocytes and possessed a large nucleus. The macrogametocytes were also easily distinguished from microgametocytes by their dark staining appearance and their well developed endoplasmic reticulum.

In the early proliferative phase the endometrial epithelium already shows a secretion function which reaches its maximum during the early and midsecretory phase. The intercellular spaces are initially narrow, but they become widetoward the end of the cycle. While occluding junctions and desmosomes are seen at any stage of the cycle, gap junctions occur only in the late proliferative phase and in the secretory phase. Nucleolar channel system appears repeatedly in the early and occasionally in the midseeretory phase. Giant mitochondria are seen in the earljy secretory phase, they contain numerous lamellated and tubular cristae. Bar—like arranged filaments are found in the matrix of some elongated mitochondria which often display a constriction of membranes. The basement membrane is uninterrupted, its thickness increases gradually throughout the cycle from about 40 nm to 100 nm. Ciliated cells are abundant in the late proliferative phase, but they decrease remarkably in the late secretory phase. Clear cells are found in the base of the epithelium. Morphologically, some of them are simlar to the endocrine cells observed in other organs.
