This paper presents the results of our studies on the faunal and ecology distribution of birds in Wuliangsuhai region of Nei Mongol, which were carried out during 1983—1986. Wuliangsuhai is the second large freshwater lake in Inner Mongolia. Its area is over 200 square kilometres, where waterweeds grow thickly and reeds are luxuriant. This paper presents the results of our studies on the faunal and ecology distribution of birds in Wuliangsuhai region of Nei Mongol, which were carried out during 1983—1986. Wuliangsuhai is the second large freshwater lake in Inner Mongolia. Its area is over 200 square kilometres, where waterweeds grow thickly and reeds are luxuriant. There are plenty of food and concealed conditions, which provide the perch for a great number of wading and natatorial birds. 124 species of birds collected belong to 75 genera, 35 families, 14orders. Among them, 64 species are summer residents 41 species migrants, 19 species residents and 5 species new records for Nei Mongol. These birds are distributed in five types of ecological environment. As the silt is deposited in the bottom of the lake, water in lake gets shallow, and man's economic activities have exerted a tremendous influence so that primary productivity is more than secondary productivity in lake and ecosystem is rapidly losing balance. Its succession process may result in reed swamp down to salinized soil desert. At present, the avifaunal is gradually turning poor. Some of bigger birds, for example, Cygnus olor, Pelecanus philippensis, Anser anser, Egretta alba and Ardea cinerea, etc. have decreased clearly. Such birds of prey as Circus aeruginosus have been almost stamped out in the lake.

Moreover, the functions of agro-ecosystem were thoroughly analyzed, which include the analyses of primary productivity, secondary productivity, energy budget, energy input structure, energy efficiency, material cycling and economic budget. Based on biological adaptability and material-energy flow balancing in ecosystem, an integrated approach was developed to assess'the potential productivity and population carryiny capacity of agro-ecosystem in China.With a model, the China's agro-ecosystem was divided into three structural ui its (farmland, grassland and animal busban-dary) and 601 regional units, and the potential primary productivity, secondary productivity and population carrying capacity were evaluated. The major results are presented as follows; the average primary productivities of farmland and grassland are 27.4t/hm2-a and 4.9t/hm2.a, respectivily, total primary biomass could amount to 4.5×109t/a, the average economic yield of cereal crops is 6.9t/hm2, 92% higher than that ai present, total output of cereals could come up to 9.7×108t, 2.42 times the actual output now,the outputs of edible energy and protein of secondary production are 1.45×10 5kJ/a and 9.5×106 t/a respectivly, the yields of meat, egg, milk and fish are 5.27×l07t, 1.45×l07t, 8.88×108t and 9.24×108t respectievly, the population carryying capacity of agro-ecosystem is 1.72×109.

中国农业生态系统的生产潜力和人口承载力是全球关注的问题。本研究将农业生态系统的生产潜力定义为由生物遗传特性和4大宏观生态条件(太阳辐射、温度、水资源和土地资源)共同决定的生产力上限;以无机环境-第一性生产-第二性生产之间的结构适应性和能量-物质流平衡为主线,发展了对农业生态系统生产潜力和人口承载力的综合评价模型,它包括第一性生产潜力子模型和第二性生产潜力与人口承载力优化子模型;并应用该模型把中国农业生态系统分为603个区域单元,进行第一性生产潜力,第二性生产潜力和人口承载力的评价。
