The complex reflection coefficient of the open-ended waveguide system is measured by a automatic standing-wave detector. By means of a variational method and curve fitting, the relative Permittivity of the material (εr'-jε") can be determined in a short time by using a computer program. Based on a set of efficient proceduce, the computer- time is reduced considerably. Therefore, the presented method here is more favourable for real-time system. Experiments show that it is a practical and accurate method.
