According to meteorological data observed from vast areas of the tropical Pacific during the winter of 1985-1986, the sea surface meteorological data of two latitude sections (140 °E-160 °W, 21 °N; 141°30'E-170 °W, 0°) and three longitude sections (130°E, 165°E and 170 °W between 10°N-6°S) are analysed.The analysed results show that the demarcation lines of the variance of the marine meteorological elements with the meridian are mostly at 170°E and the difference between the elements on the two sides...

According to meteorological data observed from vast areas of the tropical Pacific during the winter of 1985-1986, the sea surface meteorological data of two latitude sections (140 °E-160 °W, 21 °N; 141°30'E-170 °W, 0°) and three longitude sections (130°E, 165°E and 170 °W between 10°N-6°S) are analysed.The analysed results show that the demarcation lines of the variance of the marine meteorological elements with the meridian are mostly at 170°E and the difference between the elements on the two sides of this line is remarkable. Due to the influence of the southern steady subtropical high pressure over the ocean, the northwest trade wind prevails in the central region of 21 °N (170° E-160°W). The western region of 21°N (140°E-170°E) is not only under the influences of the denatured high pressure which comes from the continent and moves to the sea, and the processes produced by merged high pressures, but is also influenced by warm water from the tropical western Pacific. The western -legion has high air and water temperature, high humidity, low air pressure, much cloudiness and large wind speed,wind wave and swelling. Closer to the equator, the above mentioned difference become more unobvious.In this paper, it is pointed out that temperature difference between sea and air in the central region along 21°N is smaller and increases toward two sides, but is opposite in the equatorial region, i.e. it is bigger in the mid equatorial region and decreases toward two sides, especially obviously decreasing towards the east where a region of zero value appears.

本文主要根据1985—1986年冬季热带太平洋大面积海洋气象调查资料,初步分析了热带太平洋中、西部海区海面气象要素基本特征。指出热带太平洋海面气象要素随经度而变化的规律性是比较明显的。一般是以170°E为界,其东、西两侧变化趋势基本相反,离开赤道越远,要素的经向变化越显著,在赤道上要素的经向变化最小。并指出北太平洋副热带高压及西太平洋赤道辐合带是形成上述规律的主要原因。

In this paper the complex empirical orthogonal function (CEOF) is employed to analyse the monthly sea surface temperature anomalies (SSTA) in the tropical western pacific for the period from 1951 to 1986. The results show that the SSTA consist of three patterns: The quasi-stationary mode, the latitudinal propagating mode and the longitudinal propagating mode. The three modes make nearly the same contribution to the total variance of SST averaged at 15.5%.Moreover digital filtering and time-lag correlation...

In this paper the complex empirical orthogonal function (CEOF) is employed to analyse the monthly sea surface temperature anomalies (SSTA) in the tropical western pacific for the period from 1951 to 1986. The results show that the SSTA consist of three patterns: The quasi-stationary mode, the latitudinal propagating mode and the longitudinal propagating mode. The three modes make nearly the same contribution to the total variance of SST averaged at 15.5%.Moreover digital filtering and time-lag correlation etc. are applied to analyse the quasi-period low frequently oscillations of the modes and their relations to the southern oscillation (SO) and the Western Pacific Subtropical High. The quasi-stationary pattern (mode 1) with a quasi-period oscillation of 30-60 months is related to SO with a negative correlation whose largest coefficint of coherency is - 0.68 when lag is a 2-month period. The mode is related to the Western Pacific Subtropical High with a positive correlation whose coefficient of coherency is the lagest when mode 1 leads by 3 months. The latitudinal propagating pattern (mode 2) is of a quasi-biennial oscillation related to the SSTA in the eastern equatorial pacific with a positive correlation whose coefficient of the coherency is the lagest when lag is 6-month period. The longitudinal propagating pattern (mode 3) has also a 30-60 months oscillation related to the Eastern Pacific Subtropical High with a negative correlation whose coefficient of coherency is the lagest when lag is 5-6 month period. The above-mentioned facts imply that SSTA in the tropical western pacific, weak ocean current area, plays a special role in the air-sea interaction, responding to the oscillation of the global sea level pressure, influencing the subtropical high, while receiving a feedback from it.

本文采用复经验正交函数(CEOF)对热带西太平洋1951—1986年的月平均表层水温距平进行了分析,结果发现,这一区域的水温异常包括准静止型、经向传播型和纬向传播型三个主要模态(mode),它们对总方差的贡献具有同等重要性,平均为15.5%。本文还用数字滤波和滞时相关等方法分析了各模态的准周期振荡及其与南方涛动、西太平洋副热带高压之间的相关关系。

Based on the data observed from the Tropical Western Pacific, this paper computes the available potential energy (APE) of the lower atmosphere layer in the tropics and analyses its distribution characteristics at two sections (the equatorial and 165°E) in the investigation region. The results of computation show the physical state of the thermal structure of the lower atmosphere layer in the tropics during the period of E1 Nino. Based on the data observed from the Tropical Western Pacific, this paper computes the available potential energy (APE) of the lower atmosphere layer in the tropics and analyses its distribution characteristics at two sections (the equatorial and 165°E) in the investigation region. The results of computation show the physical state of the thermal structure of the lower atmosphere layer in the tropics during the period of E1 Nino. An analysis is also made of the stratification curve of the lower tropical atmosphere and an inversion layer also existing in the tropical atmosphere is indicated. These findings lay a foundation for making a thorough study on the thermodynamic structure of the tropical atmosphere. It is shown that computing APE with the approximate form of APE equations is practicable and the computation is itself simple and convenient.

本文根据热带西太平洋调查资料,用APE方程的近似形式计算了热带低层大气的有效位能,分析了调查海域内赤道、165°E两条断面低层大气有效位能的分布特征。计算结果反映了埃尔尼诺期间热带低层大气热结构的物理状态。本文还分析了热带低层大气的温度层结曲线,指出热带大气也存在逆温层。这对深入研究热带大气热力结构打下了基础。文章表明,用APE方程近似形式计算大气有效位能是可行的,计算本身也是简便的。
