To identify the sediment sources from the two rivers on the Yellow Sea and East China Sea Shelves accurately is significant for understanding modern sediment dynamics, shelf development and evolution, and the effect of rivers on the seas.
According to the field observations and laboratory simulation and analysis, based on the distinct characteristics of the 3D construction of the bioturbation structure in modern sediment, we suggest that for all animal domichinia in modern sediment in a branching bay the individual index of bioturbation can be obtained from regular geometrical objects, and a study of the special feature of bioturbation in a branching bay can be made.
Correspondently, the natural erosion rates are 216 t/(km~2·a) for the erosion duration period of 0.7 Ma and 378 t/(km~2·a) for the period of 0.4 Ma,respectively, which are close to the modern sediment yield rate of 397 t/(km~2·a) for the Sichuan hilly basin region of the Tuojiang river.
Thus, the natural sediment yield ranges from 264.0t/km~(2)·a to 342.0t/km~(2)·a in the upper and middle Yangtze River, which is about 50%-60% of the modern sediment yield in the area.
Soft soil is the weakness of modern sediment layers, often become difficult geological problems, because its characteristics of low-intensity, high compression and weak water permeability as a foundation.
In the new method, shallow drill wells replace geological sites and recent and modern sediment are classified to interpret the change of the sedimentary environment ,and then in combination with the chronostratigraphic study near-surface sedimentary sequences are established.
High-resolution seismic reflection profile data show that the modern sediment cover (over the last 150?years) in Georgian Bay is thin and spatially discontinuous.
The geochemical fingerprint for each drainage basin was determined from the elemental composition of heavy minerals in the silt-sized fraction of modern sediment samples.
Tampa Bay differs in that it was originally incised into carbonate strata, and neither fluvial or marine processes are interpreted to be major contributors to modern sediment distribution.
The aim of this study was to identify pathways and processes of modern sediment transport from the Siberian hinterland to the Laptev Sea and further to the Arctic Ocean.
Thr Mg/Al-ratio in modern sediment——the m-index [100(MgO/Al_2O_3)] along Fujian coastal zone, from Shacheng Bay in the north to Shaoan Bay in the south, shows the following characterisitics: (1) the mean value of m-index decreases, in the order of open bays>semi-enclosed bays without or with little fresh water input>bays with rivulet runoff>estuaries; (2) the m-index increases seawards in estuaries and from rivulet inflow to bay mouth in bays with rivulet runoff; (3) in the case without fresh wa...
Hulun Lake, the fifth largest lake in China, is located in the west side of Hulun Buir Prairie. It was seldom studied and understood before due to the remote border district. The observation and sampling of the modern sediment in Hulun Lake has been carried out and the mineral composition and the sedimentation rate analysed recently.
This paper deals with modern sediment characterstic and distribution of Caofeician islands. The sediment mainly come from ancient Luanhe delta. The development of mainly islands are discussed in the paper.
